May 3rd, 2008, the day a lot of locals and non-Diablo Locals had been waiting for. The opening day of Diablo Freeride Park!
Prior to opening day, the Town of Vernon has been battered with severe weather (rain, thunder-storms, strong winds Etc).
Prior to opening day, the Town of Vernon has been battered with severe weather (rain, thunder-storms, strong winds Etc).
I arrived @ Diablo @ 8:15 Am and thought I'd be the first there, but the parking lot was half full with familiar faces already. Being that no one printed out their "Release Forms" and I did, i was actually the first in line to get my season pass, and my lift ticket, which also made Me and a young Fella named Devin the first two inline (with me being first).
We took the first run of the day, it was Misty, wet and yet, the kind folks @ Diablo Freeride Park opened up 98% of the trails to the public, even the newly build Greenhorn and Salvation.
Greenhorn, it a Nice flowy trail, some pedaling may be required, but if you were in great shape, it will and should be no problem (this is meant to be a top to bottom run) it merges with the Small Salvation kicker, which Devin and I sessioned:
Then Exits out of Lower Breakout, into Chute de Satchum and then Alpine!
Salvation... in order to get into Salvation you need to go through any of the older trails, Twist, Flatliner, Upper Dominion, and merge into Upper breakout and make a Left.... there you will be greeted with a 30 foot ladder/kicker leading to a 15 foot gap or so:
Then back to alpine, progression drops (or SRAM Berm) down to the Phantom Drop:
The weather conditions definitely effected some riding, but overall it was a FUN filled opening day weekend, and we look forward to having more Fun filled weekends @ Diablo! Props to the Diablo trail Crew for the hard work they have done during the off season!

Wow Dave it looks like you had some FUN!
looks like a really fun park. also looks like they build it super nice, but from what you showed, i wouldn't exactly call it a park. there's a really long table top with a nice kicker at the end, and a deck that you can ride off the edge. hopefully there's more too it.

Great pics and video Dave! Couldn't be there for opening day but will be there this weekend so Steph can check out the new trails before starting racing season next week. Are you racing this year?

Diablo has a lot more to offer.... i didn't really get time to do down other trails and shoot video, that video was taking on 1 run. this video was shot really quickly, as i was having tons of fun riding.
I'm glad some of you enjoyed the Pics and Video! My next blog will be about the US open!

Wow that was really ...
LAME! Sorry to be negative but there was only two things worth filming at the whole place (and I definitely wouldn't have posted any of the footie you did get). Whatever, I'm sure lots of people would have enjoyed it, just looks a little lame (and the repeat button video didn't help any).

Man, I wish the east coast had some sort of trails like Whistler. These stunts are so mellow and safety conscious. Bring on the nar!!!

Park looks cool. Sorry but none of the riders in that vid had any style at all. Bring the negative props!
that place has a lot of fun stuff. wall rides. drops eveywhere. an awesome rockface to ride down. rock gardens you got'em. so go ride it before you start hateing om it. there is plenty of people out there who know what i am talking about.

Diablo has some really sick natural terrain. There are some plain ridiculous rock gardens on that hill. The east coast has some amazing riding in general. Not many people know about it, which is fine by me.
